What We Do > Mental Health Programs

In our commitment to improving mental health among children and adolescents in North Macedonia, we have developed a robust suite of programs backed by extensive research. We have trained therapists to conduct individual or group sessions with children and adolescents. In these sessions, young people could learn to identify and understand their negative thought patterns and behaviours, and to develop strategies to address and change them.

Drawing from evidence-based methodologies, current global best practices, and a deep understanding of the local context, we have crafted these mental health programs to cater to the specific needs of young individuals. Through collaborations with experts, educational institutions, and healthcare providers, we have ensured that each program is both scientifically grounded and practically effective.

The programs listed below are a testament to our tireless dedication to fostering healthier minds and brighter futures for the youth of North Macedonia.

  1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This program can be particularly helpful for children and adolescents dealing with anger issues. It helps them understand how their thoughts influence their feelings and behaviors, and teaches them strategies for managing their anger. One of our most famous CBT programs is called FRIENDS Program. It's aimed at preventing and treating anxiety and depression while promoting resilience.

  2. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT): This is an evidence-based treatment approach designed to help children, adolescents, and their caregivers overcome the impact of traumatic events. It's particularly useful for children who have experienced trauma and are dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and help the ones who have experienced traumatic events, such as family violence.

  3. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for Adolescents: DBT is a specific type of CBT that helps adolescents learn how to regulate emotions, manage relationships, handle distress, and maintain mindfulness.

  4. Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP): This intervention is for children aged 0-5 who have experienced at least one traumatic event and are experiencing mental health, attachment, and/or behavioral problems, including PTSD. The primary goal of CPP is to support and strengthen the relationship between a child and his or her caregiver as a vehicle for restoring the child's sense of safety, attachment, and appropriate affect.

  5. Multisystemic Therapy (MST): MST addresses the multiple systems that impact a teenager's behavior (family, school, community), helping teens develop coping skills and reducing behaviors that can cause more significant problems as they grow older.

  6. Anger Management Groups for Adolescents: This kind of program helps adolescents understand their anger, learn strategies to manage it, and develop better communication and problem-solving skills.

  7. Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP): The SSP is a five-day intervention designed to reduce stress and auditory sensitivity while enhancing social engagement and resilience. By calming the physiological and emotional state, the child or adolescent is better able to focus on other therapeutic goals.
